Visiting Mallorca? Explore Mallorca’s Secret Beaches Like a Local
Mallorca’s famous for its lively beaches, but if you’re like us and crave a quieter, more authentic experience, there’s a whole world of secret coves and secluded shores waiting to be discovered. After years of living (and road-tripping) around the island, we’ve put together our personal list of must-visit hidden beaches—plus a few insider tips to make your day even better.
1. Cala Bóquer: A Hiker’s Coastal Dream
- Where Is It? Near Pollença in the north.
- Why We Love It: You’ll feel like you’re stepping into another world as you hike through the Bóquer Valley. The rocky trail leads to a small pebble cove with crystal-clear waters—perfect for snorkeling.
- Our Tip: Stop by the Mercat de Pollença in the morning and pick up a few local treats (like ensaimadas or fresh fruit). That way, you can have a picnic lunch on the shore.
Where to Eat Nearby
If you have time afterward, swing by Restaurante Eu Centro in Pollença’s main square for traditional Mallorcan cuisine—think pa amb oli (bread with olive oil and tomatoes) and sobrassada (spicy sausage).
2. S’Illot (Alcúdia): Island Views Without the Crowds
- Where Is It? North coast near Alcúdia.
- Why We Love It: There’s a tiny islet just offshore that adds to the view, and the water is calm and shallow. Great for families or those who just want to float around.
- Our Tip: Pack a beach umbrella—there’s not much natural shade here. And if you’re up for it, rent a kayak to explore the coastline and the islet.
What Else to Do?
After your beach day, you can drive into Alcúdia Old Town for a stroll along the medieval walls and grab dinner at Sa Cullera, a local favorite for seafood paella.
3. Cala Tuent: A Slice of Serra de Tramuntana
- Where Is It? Northwest coast, near Sa Calobra.
- Why We Love It: Picture-perfect pebble beach with the Serra de Tramuntana mountains as a backdrop. Less crowded than Sa Calobra but just as stunning.
- Our Tip: The winding roads can be intense—take your time, enjoy the views, and consider stopping at Mirador de Sa Calobra for panoramic photos.
A Quick Bite?
Es Vergeret, perched above the beach, offers a gorgeous terrace and solid Mediterranean dishes. A bit pricey, but the views alone are worth it.
4. Cala Estreta (Near Portocolom): Quiet Coastal Escape
- Where Is It? Southeast coast, near Portocolom.
- Why We Love It: A short hike through pine woods leads to a secluded sandy cove. Feels like you’ve discovered your own private paradise.
- Our Tip: Bring enough water and snacks—there are no facilities. Also, wear decent walking shoes; the path can be uneven.
Restaurant Suggestion
On your way back, treat yourself at Florian in Portocolom for fresh seafood and a relaxed marina vibe.
